Meet Emily, the face & founder behind HoneyBelle
My love affair with gold began long before HoneyBelle.
As a kid, I spent endless Central Otago summers searching for gold in rivers and streams. We’d camp near my grandparents’ place in Queenstown, where Dad and Pa would disappear for hours — chatting, laughing, and sifting through riverbeds on a nearby Glenorchy farm — while my sisters and I boogie-boarded down the river or tagged along to “help.”
Over the years, our summertime hobby built quite the collection — tiny jars of gold flakes and nuggets (tucked inside an old & iconically Kiwi pastel-coloured cake tin) were eventually crafted into family heirlooms by local jewellers. Mum created a stack of beautiful custom-made jewellery, and my sisters and I were given special pieces we still wear to this day.
When I got engaged, Dad suggested we go looking for gold for our wedding bands together. We spent days wading through cold rivers, panning, sifting and making special memories —
Memories I’m reminded of whenever I look at my hands, and memories that inspired me to create HoneyBelle.
Most people never see where their jewellery begins.
I didn’t realise how special it was at the time. Watching Dad swirl gold through a pan seemed so ordinary to me.
But I now understand that growing up surrounded by raw, unrefined gold has given me a deep appreciation for its true beauty and value. It’s a perspective that’s also shaped HoneyBelle as a brand.
