The Necklace He Ordered in Secret

Lucy had her eye on our Coco Necklace.

She had not said anything to us about it. She had mentioned it somewhere, to someone, the way you do when a piece keeps catching your attention and you are not quite ready to do anything about it yet.

Dave got wind of it.

He messaged us separately, quietly, and asked whether he could have one made with a natural diamond. He wanted to surprise her with it on their wedding day. Then he kept that secret for weeks, which anyone who has ever tried to keep a good surprise from someone they love will tell you is the hard part.

She wore it on the day. And she wore it with a bespoke pair of our Georgian Cut Diamond Drop Earrings, half a carat in each ear.

Why we love this one

The surprise is lovely. It would be a good story even if it ended there. But this is the part we love most.

Pieces like these do not get worn once and put away in a box. They go to the wedding, then to work on a Tuesday, then to the beach, then to dinner twenty years from now. A necklace Lucy will fasten without thinking on a hundred ordinary mornings. Earrings that will turn up in photos from birthdays and holidays and afternoons nobody planned to remember.

They collect the whole life, not just the big day.

That is the difference between wedding jewellery and jewellery you happen to wear at a wedding. One belongs to a single afternoon. The other quietly attaches itself to everything that comes after.

And one day, these get handed down with the story still attached. Someone will be told, years from now, that their grandfather ordered this in secret because he heard she wanted it.

The pieces

The Coco Necklace is one of our most-worn designs, and that is exactly the point. Fine, understated and easy to live in, it sits beautifully on its own or layered with everything else you already wear. Lucy’s was made with a natural diamond, which is available on request.

The Georgian Cut Diamond Drop Earrings were made bespoke for Lucy at 0.5ct in each ear. The Georgian cut has a softer, older kind of sparkle. It catches light gently rather than throwing it, which is why it looks so at home in candlelight, in daylight, and in twenty years of photographs.

Planning a surprise of your own?

Dave’s approach is one we see more often than you would think. A quiet message. A little bit of intel. A lot of trust that we will keep it to ourselves.

If there is a piece someone in your life keeps coming back to, or something you would like made especially for them, we would love to help you plan it. Bespoke commissions are a large part of what we do, and discretion comes standard.

Congratulations David and Lucy. Thank you for letting us be a small part of it.
